The minutes taken from the June 2011 Business meeting are now available for review. Also, the HPP section would like to congratulate Jeffrey Yen (University of Toronto) and Benjamin Zabinski (York Univesrity) who shared the Mary J. Wright student paper award this year!
Here are some important notes from the document:
Nominations and Positions for HPP executive 2011-2012
- Jason Goertzen remains Chair for 2011-2012 (2nd year of 2-year term)
- Marissa Barnes remains Treasurer-Secretary for 2011-2012
- Fran Cherry remains Archivist for 2011-2012
- Chris Lepine remains Webmaster for 2011-2012
- William Smythe is nominated and accepts position as Chair-Elect, 2011-2012
- Michael Arfken and Laura Ball will serve as Program Co-Chairs, 2011-2012
- Eric Oosenbrug asked about Student Representative position
- Jason will follow up with Cor about the Editor position of the Bulletin
The future of the Bulletin
- Jason agrees that after he is finished his term as Chair that he would be willing to take on the Editor’s position of the Bulletin
- Discuss some different things we would like to see happen
- Peer-Reviewed Section; Discussion Section; Student Paper Section
- Suggested team approach to overhauling the Bulletin
Marissa reports that we have $500 more in our section’s bank account than we had at the same time last year.
- The improved financial situation is attributable primarily to there being no costs associated with our invited speaker in Winnipeg 2010
- Our membership numbers have remained relatively consistent
- The security of our section’s financial status not bleeding-out this year, reaffirms
- the suggestion that we invite someone local for the convention 2012

Please be advised that the HPP Section Business Meeting has been rescheduled to 8:00am-8:55am on Saturday, at the upcoming convention.

The minutes taken from the June 2010 Business meeting are now available for download (Adobe PDF format). Highlights include:
* For the 2011 meeting, the executive will attempt to forge some relationships with other sections of the CPA in order to encourage cross-section dialogue.
* Jason Goertzen negotiated more independence for our section in terms of scheduling for future conferences; committed to by the CPA administration in writing.
* We need to increase (paid) membership so guest speakers can be invited.
* The HPP Bulletin will be undergoing re-tooling this year in order to increase the rate of publication as well as participation from the membership.
* 2010/11 Executive: Jason Goertzen has agreed to stay on as Chair for a two-year term, Laura Ball and Angelina Baydala were elected as co-Program Chairs, Marissa Barnes as Secretary-Treasurer, and all other positions will stay the same.

* All issues of the HPP Bulletin will be archived electronically and offered on the web site.
* Cost reduction strategies are needed to improve the section’s financial outlook.
* Students need to be made aware of publishing opportunities with the HPP Bulletin.
* Nomination of new board members: Kate Harper (Program Chair), Jason Goertzen (Incoming Chair)
* Webmaster position nominated/created. Chris Lepine to take over as Webmaster.
